Nestled in the southeast corner of the White Mountains — the gateway to the North County of New Hampshire — is the 3rd Circuit District Division Ossipee Court, better known as the Ossipee District Court.
This Court is located in the same building as the Carroll County Superior Court, where felony jury trials are held. The Ossipee Court handles cases brought by these police departments:
They also handle cases brought by the State Police (generally, out of Troop E in Tamworth), and brought by the Marine Patrol.
Criminal and DWI defense attorney Ted Lothstein appears on a regular basis in this Court, most often to handle a DWI or drug case. Ted Lothstein has also handled felonies in Carroll County Superior Court, including a high-profile felony DWI case in 2015. Most felony cases will originate in the Ossipee District Court for an arraignment and probable cause hearing, and then proceed to Carroll County Superior Court when the grand jury brings an indictment.
Often, the key to defending a felony is to attempt to thwart a grand jury indictment by quick and effective advocacy in the district court. Accordingly, it is critically important to hire a lawyer early on in felony prosecutions.
