7 Arrested During Bike Week Roadblock

On this page on June 10, 2016, we warned our readers that the State Police would target bikers and other tourists visiting NH by conducting a DWI "Checkpoint" or Roadblock in New Hampton during bike week.

According to the Concord Patch website, the State Police conducted their roadblock on Saturday night going into early Sunday morning, June 18-19, and stopped nearly 400 people. Seven were arrested for DWI and drug crimes.

DWI Exception to the Constitution

DWI Roadblocks, when administered according to constitutional requirements, constitute a rare exception to the general rule that a motor vehicle stop, conducted without any police observation of a traffic violation or erratic operation, violates the Fourth Amendment to the United States Constitution and Part I, Article 19 of the New Hampshire Constitution.
