Public service and community service - these are values that might as well have been embedded in the very DNA of our lawyers and our firm. Ted and Richard are both former public defenders, where we provided decades of public service. Our defense attorneys regularly accept court-appointed cases, including serious felonies, from the state and federal courts because we believe in the constitutional right to counsel and in serving our community.

Our defense firm also serves our community in ways other than representing clients in the courtroom. Ted Lothstein contributed at least a thousand hours of his time over two decades to service on the NH Bar’s Continuing Legal Education Committee, serving as chairperson, lecturer, and preparer of materials for dozens of legal seminars on the topics of appellate litigation, criminal procedure and constitutional law, DUI and motor vehicle defense.

Richard Guerriero, our shining star of public service, has served in many positions for the New Hampshire Bar Association:

  • Elected President of the New Hampshire Bar and serving the term from 2021-2022
  • Also served the Bar as President-Elect and Vice President
  • Member of the NH Bar’s Board of Governors, and Committee Member (Ethics).

Richard serves the legal community in many other capacities:

  • Currently serves as the Criminal Justice Panel Representative for the United States District Court for New Hampshire.
  • He is also the New Hampshire State Committee Chair for the American College of Trial Lawyers.
  • From 2016 to 2025, Richard served on the Board of Directors of the New Hampshire Public Defender, and from 2015 to 2019 he served on the board of the New Hampshire Disability Rights Center. In 2009, Richard received the New Hampshire Bar Foundation’s Frank Rowe Kenison Award for community service. In 2024 Richard received the New Hampshire Bar Association’s Award for Distinguished Service to the Legal Profession. Outside of the legal world, Richard has served on the boards of many community nonprofit organizations, including the Montessori Schoolhouse of Cheshire County, the Keene Community Music Center, the Colonial Theater in Keene, New Hampshire.

We have given many thousands of dollars to institutions, nonprofits and charitable organizations, focusing on those that promote access to justice in the legal system and help build stronger local communities. These include :
